Patriots Edge Ducks 5-4

61614gamerecapBridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Long Island Ducks 5-4 at TD Bank Ballpark on Monday evening.


Long Island took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by Adam Bailey.


Adam Donachie hit an RBI double in the bottom of the first to give the Patriots a 2-1 lead.


The Ducks tied up the game on an RBI single by Bailey in the top of the third inning to make the score 2-2.


Brendan Harris hit a homerun (1) in the top of the fourth to put the Ducks up 3-2.


Somerset answered with a run on a Damaso Espino RBI double in the fourth inning to knot the game up 3-3.


The Patriots regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a Jonny Tucker two run single for a 5-3 advantage.


Long Island cut the lead to 5-4 with a run in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI fielder’s choice that allowed Bailey to reach first safely.


Patriots starter Derell McCall (3-2) picked up the win, allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings pitched. Ducks starter Jared Lansford (2-3) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits in six innings pitched. Jon Hunton earned his 14th save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning pitched.


The 2014 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark to take on the Bridgeport Bluefish on Saturday, June 21st.
