Lancaster, Pennsylvania – The Somerset Patriots (17-10) fell to the Lancaster Barnstormers (20-8) 11-6 Wednesday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Somerset opened up the scoring in the top of the first on an Alex Castellanos RBI single. The lead was short-lived, however, as a run-scoring balk and a Joey Terdoslavich RBI triple in the bottom of the first gave Lancaster a 2-1 advantage.
The Barnstormers added two more runs in the second inning on a run-scoring throwing error from Kyle Davies and an RBI single from Darian Sanford. Adam Weisenburger (3) got Somerset back within two in the fourth inning on a solo home run to right-center field.
Lancaster opened up the game in the bottom of the fourth with a five-run outburst. Anderson De La Rosa began the scoring in the fourth with a two-run double to left field. Blake Gailen later added an RBI groundout that saw a second run score on a Danny Dorn throwing error. A Castellanos fielding error on a groundball hit by Ryan Casteel one batter later allowed the fifth run of the inning to score and provided the Barnstormers a 9-2 lead.
The Patriots scratched back a run in the top of the seventh on a run-scoring fielding error from Lancaster shortstop Vladimir Frias before a Castellanos (4) three-run home run to left-center field in the eighth made it a 9-6 ballgame. Castellanos finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.
The Barnstormers immediately responded in the bottom of the inning on a two-run Sanford RBI triple to finish off the scoring.
Steve Johnson (3-1) earned the win after he allowed two runs on four hits over six innings. Kyle Davies (0-2) yielded nine runs (five earned) on nine hits over three-plus innings to take the loss.
The Patriots and Barnstormers conclude their four-game series Thursday morning with a single-admission doubleheader. Somerset righty Cory Riordan (2-1, 3.22 ERA) toes the rubber against Lancaster righty Brooks Hall (2-1, 3.00 ERA) in game one. Southpaw Rick Teasley (0-2, 6.75 ERA) takes the mound for the Patriots in game two against Barnstormers lefty Tommy Shirley (3-1, 5.72 ERA)
The 2018 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues on the road until Friday, June 1st when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark to take on the Road Warriors at 7:05 pm. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com
