Patriots Blast Bees In Series Opener

New Britain, Connecticut – The Somerset Patriots (38-25) posted a season-high in hits in Monday night’s 10-3 win over the New Britain Bees (32-31) at New Britain Stadium.

The Patriots jumped ahead in the first inning after Ramon Flores led off the game with a triple to right-center field and scored on a Jimmy Paredes sacrifice fly one batter later. Paredes (2) then increased the lead to 3-0 in the top of the third with a two-run home run down the right-field line.

Somerset blew the game open in the fourth inning. Dario Pizzano led off the inning with a double and was brought home two batters later on a Craig Massey RBI single. Michael Crouse (6) then launched a two-run home run over the left-center field fence to put the Patriots on top 6-0.

Flores blooped a single to right field as the next batter, once again setting the stage for Paredes. The former big leaguer then drilled a two-run home run over the right-center field fence – his second of the night – to increase the lead to 8-0.

Paradise finished the game 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI. The five RBI tied a single-game high for the team this year, while Paredes became the first player this season to record a multi-home run game.

The Patriots would add two more runs later in the game for good measure. An RBI triple from Crouse in the fifth, along with an RBI single from Will Kengor in the eighth, topped off the Somerset scoring.

Meanwhile, Patriots starting pitcher Thomas Dorminy (W, 4-4) tossed a gem. The lefty held the Bees without a hit through the first four innings and only allowed one run to score on a bases-loaded walk to Jonathan Galvez in the sixth. He finished his night allowing just that one run over six innings with a season-high nine strikeouts.

Dorminy has now 2on each of his last four starts, allowing just two runs over 24.0 innings in the process.

New Britain scratched together two runs late with a Jason Rogers RBI single in the eighth and a Logan Moore RBI double in the ninth to finish the night.

Bees’ righty Rainy Lara (L, 5-5) allowed eight runs on 10 hits over four innings to take the loss.

Somerset set a season-high with seven extra-base hits and 16 overall hits on the night.

The Somerset Patriots and New Britain Bees continue their five-game series with a single-admission doubleheader Tuesday night. First pitch of game one at New Britain Stadium is set for 5:35 p.m.

The 2019 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, July 12th when the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 pm game against the New Britain Bees.
