Nine Run Seventh Inning Leads To Big Patriots Win

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (17-8, 52-36) defeated the New Britain Bees (12-11, 45-41) 9-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday evening.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Patriots exploded for nine runs to take the lead. Justin Pacchioli started the scoring with a two-run single and a third run came home on an error on the play to put the Patriots in front. Yovan Gonzalez, Ramon Flores, and Alfredo Rodriguez each had RBI singles in the inning. Matt Oberste’s two-run base hit and Mike Fransoso’s bases loaded walk gave Somerset a commanding 9-2 advantage.

“We got some stuff rolling early on to start the inning,” said Pacchioli. “Each guy didn’t do too much. Guys just stayed within themselves and tried to put a good swing on a pitch they thought they could drive. One after another, it’s always good to see guys on a team like this ready to contribute.”

New Britain got on the board first with two runs in the fourth inning on a bases loaded hit by pitch of Jovan Rosa followed by an RBI fielder’s choice by Jamar Walton for a 2-0 lead.

Dustin Molleken (2-1) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Chris Reed (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on two hits in 1.1 innings pitched.

The 2018 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday, August 4th with a 7:05 pm game against the New Britain Bees. The game features Fireworks and Fortnite presented by 9-1-1 On FOX. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
