National Trails Day Observed At Griggstown Native Grassland Preserve

The township Trail Advisory Committee held its second observance of National Trails Day June 6 at the Griggstown Native Grassland Preserve off Canal Road.

According to Fran Varacalli, the township’s land preservation and management consultant, the day included “tips from a local photographer, David Hartz,  on how to photograph natural landscapes; geo caching volunteer, Vince Caporossi,  was on hand to help geo cachers learn about the geo cache trail at Griggstown; a hula hopping fitness instructor, Jennifer Hoover Wickman, Hoopdance Instructor at Wikihoops, was on hand to showcase a different exercising technique; hiking with pets along the preserve’s trail network and displays and photographs of all the trails in Franklin Township.”

The day was created by the American Hiking Society as a “celebration of America’s magnificent trail system,” according to the society’s Web site.
