Life Story: Margaret Rae Reynolds, 66; FHS Class Of ’69

Margaret Rae Reynolds passed away in her home unexpectedly on Thursday, July 6, 2017.

Marge (some knew her as Margie) resided in Port Saint Lucie Florida since 2008. She had previously been a long-time resident of Mount Laurel, New Jersey and lived in other New Jersey towns (such as Franklin, where she attended Franklin high school and was a member of the Franklin High School Symphonic Band). Marge’s early years were spent in Alabama and Georgia.
Marge was 66 years old at her passing, having been born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1951. Her parents were Alvin and Mabel (Pelikow) Mendel. Marge was married to Steven Reynolds in 1984 and her daughter, Lauren was born in 1986.

Marge had a long career in health and human services. She had been a county social worker in New Jersey, and held a number of different positions with the New Jersey Medicaid Agency. Marge also worked for a home services company towards the end of her career. She retired from active employment in 2007.

Marge walked onto the campus of American University in Washington, DC in August, 1969. Classes, sorority and fraternity parties, campus demonstrations and sit-ins, and part-time jobs occupied Marge’s life for the next four years. She then went home and finished her degree at Rutger’s University in New Jersey.

Marge was an avid crafter all of her life. This included being a creator of jewelry, a ‘beader’, clothing designer, and she fashioned counted cross-stitch art work. It was a rare occasion to see Marge while she was not engaged in a project. She traded completed works with other crafters across the country and she bestowed the results of her work on everyone she came in contact with throughout her life.

Marge was also active in supporting animal shelters and was living with three rescued cats at the time of her passing. She brought joy to many who she knew well and to many who barely knew her. Marge remained friends with class mates from her earliest days and made new friends every day. She will be missed by many.

Marge was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Mendel, and mother Mabel Barker (who passed away this year). Marge leaves behind her husband, Steven Reynolds, her daughter Lauren Reynolds, her sister Lita Bilotti, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers and at Marge’s request, memorials may be made to Milo’s Sanctuary a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and lifetime care of special needs cats and kittens at this address: http://www.milossanctuary.org/donate.html.
