FR&A Pictorial: FHS Boys’ Basketball Team Wins Home Opener, Snaps Losing Streak
The Franklin High School boys’ varsity basketball team snapped a 29-game losing streak Dec. 19 with a come-from-behind 48-44 win over Phillipsburg.
At one point down by 6, the Warriors fought back in the second quarter to end the half down by 2, 29-27.
The second half was all Franklin, with the Warriors outscoring Philipsburg 21-16.
The game didn’t have to be as close as it was. Franklin missed a number of opportunities to put some breathing room between them and the Stateliners with a handful of missed foul shots. First-year coach Corey Floyd acknowledged that was one area needing work.
“We have a lot of rough spots, it’s a work in progress,” Floyd said. “We have to make the free throws. IF we make those free throws, we probably walk away winning by six or eight or more.”
Floyd said he told his team at halftime that they needed to step it up if they wanted to walk out with a win.
“I thought we went into a lull where we were just going through the motions, just being complacent,” he said. “I told them, second half, we have to pick it up, or we’re going to be on the losing side of this game. They came out with a lot of energy, much better than the first half.”
Overall, Floyd said he was happy with his squad’s performance.
The win snapped a 29-game losing streak for the Warriors, dating back to a 45-40 loss to Watching Hills on Feb. 2, 2013.
