FR&A Pictorial: County Holds ‘Garden Party’ In Colonial Park

Garden party09A “garden party” was held July 19 in the perennial garden at Colonial Park.

Hosted by the Somerset County Park Commission’s Horticultural Department, the “party” featured music, speakers and plant-related items for sale.

Bruce Crawford, director of Rutgers Gardens, spoke about summer shrubbery; Stephen Kristoph, an adjunct professor at Rutgers University and proprietor of Kristoph Nursery, spoke about garden perennials and Clare Liptak, a research center horticulturalist at Rutgers’ Cook College, spoke about “plant sex.”

Music was provided by the Wharton Music Center/NJ Youth Symphony Advanced String Quartet.

The program was sponsored by Storr Tractor, Four Seasons Nursery and Landscape Co., Wegmans, ShopRite of Somerset, NAL Waters Inc., Barton Nursery and Friends of the Somerville Spade & Hoe Garden Club.
