FHS Warrior Football Celebrates Home Opener With Blowout Over Montgomery

Franklin’s Clayborne Fields III manages to keep his feet in the end zone while pulling in a pass from quarterback Antonio Scott during the Warriors’ home opener against Montgomery.

The Franklin High School football Warriors exacted a bit of revenge Sept. 15 in their 42-12 blowout win over the Montgomery High School Cougars.

Franklin lost a 13-point lead in a controversial, 1-point loss to the Cougars last year in Montgomery, and it was apparent early on that the Warriors were intent on not letting that happen again.

Franklin struck first, shortly after stopping the Cougars cold in their second possession. A short pass from senior quarterback Antonio Scott to fellow senior wide receiver Clayborne Fields III ended as a 60-plus yard run by Fields into teh end zone.

The Scott/Fields team struck again several minutes later after Scott found his receiver in the corner of the end zone, connecting with a pass that Fields caught as he was falling out-of-bounds, but managing to keep his feet legal.

The Warriors scored twice more before the end of the first half, both courtesy of long runs by senior wide receiver Tykey Reinberry.

But Reinberry was just getting started, taking the second-half opening kickoff 85 yards to the end zone, increasing the Warriors’ lead to 35-6.

Montgomery was able to score once more in the fourth quarter, but, as with its first touchdown, could not convert the extra point. An field goal opportunity earlier in the game was also missed.

FHS coach John Paczkowski, nothing his first win as the Warrior coach, said his team “played how Franklin could play, they showed the potential that’s always been there.”

The Warriors were on the other end of a blowout last week in the season opener against Philipsburg, a loss that Paczkowski said was instructive.

“We learned a little something from out loss, and hopefully this shows something about out character,” he said. “They were practicing hard all week. The secondary was in a lot of man-to-man coverage. They played hard, they just played hard.”
