FHS Sports: Despite Late Surge, Lady Warriors Fall To Rutgers Prep
The Rutgers Prep Argonauts had something to prove to the Franklin Lady Warriors, and prove it they did on Jan. 17, with a 69-56 victory in their home gym.
The Lady Warriors beat Rutgers Prep in their first match-up, but the Argonauts had gone undefeated since then.
Rutgers Prep, the defending Non-Public B state champions, jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter, powered by aggressive rebounding on both ends of the court and forcing some key turnovers.
The Lady Warriors were down by 12 at the end of the first quarter, trailing 24-12.
The Warriors outscored Rutgers Prep 14-13 in the second quarter, finishing the half down 37-26.
Franklin showed some life in the third quarter, however, holding Rutgers Prep to just six points, while recording 19 of their own to take a 45-43 lead going into the locker rooms.
But the magic didn’t last, and Rutgers Prep dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Warriors 26-11.
With the loss, Franklin is 8-3 overall, and 5-1 in the Skyland Delaware division, tied with Rutgers Prep in the division.
