Dual Stream Recycling Program Expanded In Franklin

Seven more recycling zones in the township have been added to Somerset County’s dual stream recycling program.

The zones stretch from Amwell Road to Easton Avenue, and are bordered by DeMott Lane and John F. Kennedy Boulevard.

Residents in those zones will be given two 65-gallon wheeled recycling totes; one is for cardboard and paper products, and one is for glass, cans and plastics.

The totes must be placed on streets, at least two feet apart, and cannot be blocked by anything.

Specially made trucks move in and pick up the totes with mechanical arms before dumping them into the trucks.

Dual stream recycling was brought into the township in 2018, when 400 addresses were added to the county’s list.

Another 1,000 addresses were added in March 2020.
