Danielsen, Robinson Get Somerset County Democrats’ Nod For November Races

Township Councilwoman Shanel Robinson was chosen by Somerset County Democrats March 23 to run for one of the two available Somerset County Freeholder seats.

Two township residents are among the candidates Somerset County Democrats picked March 23 to run under their banner in November.

State Assemblyman Joe Danielsen (D-17) was nominated to run for re-election, and Township Councilwoman Shanel Robinson (D-At Large) was picked to run for an open seat on the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

County Democrats met at Asbury Hall in Bound Brook for their annual convention. Also chosen were other candidates for the 16th, 17th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 25th legislative districts.

Delegates also chose to endorse Phil Murphy for governor.

Running with Danielsen in the 17th District, which includes Franklin Township, are state Sen. Bob Smith and state Assemblyman Joe Egan, both of whom are incumbents.

Robinson is in the second year of her first four-year term on the council. She is joined on the Democratic ticket by Alex Avellan of Bernards.

“The Democratic ticket pledged to modernize the court house and improve services for citizens across the county,” according to a press release from the county Democrats.

Danielsen was appointed to the state Assembly in 2014, following the resignation of former Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula, who was named to the state Board of Public Utilities.

Danielsen won the seat outright in the 2015 election.
