County Offers Cross-Country Skiing Instruction

Township residents who want to learn how to cross-country ski – and use the course available at Spooky Book Golf Course – can do so from 1:30 – 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Environmental Education Center, 190 Lord Stirling Rd., Basking Ridge.

The course will be taught by a naturalist and is geared to skiers aged 10 years and up.

The discussion will include equipment, clothing, pre-conditioning, safety procedures, and places to ski, according to a release on the course. A short video illustrating ski technique will also be shown.

The fee is $11 for adults and $9 for children. Registration is available at www.somersetcountyparks.org or by calling (908) 766-2489.

Among the places in Somerset County to cross-country ski is Spooky Brook Golf Course on Elizabeth Avenue. Weather permitting, skiiing is open there from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
