CJCP Charter School Holds Inaugural International Day

Students and parents gathered at Central Jersey College Prep Charter School Feb. 17 to celebrate the world’s cultures.

Sponsored by the school’s PTSO, the inaugural International Day spotlighted students and some guest performers highlighting different cultures through song, dance and spoken word.

Featured cultures were Turkish, Indian, Chinese, Korean, African and Spanish.

The evening ended with students singing “We Are The World.”

Following the program, attendees were treated to samples of world cuisines, prepared by school parents and served in the cafeteria.

CJCP CEO Namik Cercan pronounced the event a success.

“It was a great event,” he said. “It was about unity, bringing the community together. We have differences, but here tonight we proved that we can get together and work toward the common goal of educating our children, but still retain our individual identities.”

In the past, Cercan said, each culture had its own night.

“The PTSO parents and I got together  and made the decision to make it all together, bring everyone together so that we can show our community that we’re united, that we have a common goal and we work together toward that common goal,” he said.

PTSO president Viji Venkateshan thanked the administration, PTSO members and teachers who helped put the evening together.

Following are some scenes from the evening.
