Bobby Blevins’ Stellar Debut Lead Patriots To 4-1 Win

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (12-2, 47-30) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (5-7, 31-44) 4-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening.

Making his Somerset Patriots debut on the same day he signed, starting pitcher Bobby Blevins (1-0) pitched six scoreless innings of two-hit baseball for the win.

“The big thing is just staying out of your own way and not trying to do too much. Not trying to be so perfect and that comes with experience,” said Blevins. “That’s really what I was able to do tonight. I allowed the ballpark to play to my favor. I attacked the hitters and let them put the ball in play to get some quick innings.”

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on a bases loaded walk to Alfredo Rodriguez.

Somerset added to the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning on a two-run single by Endy Chavez and an RBI single by Mike Fransoso that made the score 4-0.

The Blue Crabs scored their lone run in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI single by Angelo Songco for the 4-1 final.

Craig Stem (5-4) suffered the loss, allowing a run on four hits in five innings of relief.

The 2018 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Wednesday, July 25th with a day-night double header against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at 11:05 am and 7:05 pm. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
