Barbara Gates, 72, died Tuesday, September 20 at Park Place Center in the Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick.

Mrs. Gates was born and raised in Ossining, New York, the daughter of James K. Fitch and Rena (Johnson) Fitch. She relocated and settled in Somerset with her husband in 1962.

Barbara was a crossing guard for the Franklin Township school district for 40 years. She was active in the Franklin High School Band Parents, and, in her free time, she enjoyed knitting.

Mrs. Gates was predeceased by her brothers, Donald Fitch and Steven Fitch and her sister, Mimi.

She is survived by her loving husband, David Gates; her son, David J. Gates and his wife Sarah; her daughter, Suzanne Gates and her grandson, Daniel Gates.

Visitation will be held at Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton St. on Friday, September 24th from 7-9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 24 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
