American Legion Donates $18,000 For Police Vests

2-23-16 Meeting - 3

Township Police Chief Lawrence Roberts, center, was presented with an $18,000 donation by American Legion Post 478.

American Legion Post 478 was commended Feb. 23 by the Township Council for its donation of $18,000 to the township police department.

The money will be used to purchase bullet-proof vests for township police officers.

Police Chief Lawrence Roberts thanked the post “from the bottom of my heart” for the donation.

“The biggest way you can support law enforcement is something like this,” he said.

Roberts said the vests can cost as much as $2,000 each.

He said that every township police officer is given a vest.

“It’s a vital part of the day-to-day operation of the department,” he said.

“If we are able to prevent one person from a severe injury or a fatality, our mission is accomplished,” said post Commander John Deily.
