About 1,000 tiny plastic “paratroopers” landed in the outfield of TD Bank Ballpark Sept. 10, for a good cause.
The Basilone Memorial Foundation, established to honor Raritan-born-and-bred John Basilone for his service in the U.S. Marines during World War II, held the event as a fundraiser.
“Paratroopers” were sold for $1 each, and were affixed with a number. The toys were dropped out of a helicopter hovering above the playing field, and holders of the two numbers landing closest to a large bulls-eye won a $2,000 gift card and a 50-inch flat-screen television, respectively.
The Franklin Reporter & Advocate live-streamed from the helicopter’s liftoff from Central Jersey Regional Airport in Hillsborough, and also at the drop.
