A proposal to enact alternate-side-of-the-street parking for the Hamilton Street Business District will be presented next month to the Township Council. The idea was endorsed by the Hamilton Street Advisory Board at its June 6 meeting, and is seen as necessary to ensure a proper cleaning of the street.

The 2014-15 basketball season was an historic one for the Franklin High School Lady Warriors. On March 15, 2015, the Lady Warriors won the program’s first NJSIAA Group 4 Championship, besting the Shawnee Renegades 54-48.

Homewood Suites on Pierce Street held a celebration May 18 to commemorate the refurbishing of its suites and added amenities. The 11-year-old hotel held a ribbon cutting to memorialize the occasion. Franklin Township Chamber of Commerce president Michael Harris cut the blue ribbon, held by hotel staff and representatives from the Township Council and business community.

BMW of North America has named Flemington BMW a Center of Excellence, the only BMW dealership in the state to win the distinction. Flemington BMW is located at Routes 202 and 31 in Flemington and is a member of the Flemington Car & Truck Country Family of Dealerships.

Plans are in motion for a police sub-station in the Hamilton Street business district. Hamilton Street Advisory Board vice-chairman Tim Kelly said at the May 9 meeting that he is willing to donate a building he owns at 586 Hamilton St. for the sub-station.

Somerset Woods Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Old New Brunswick Road is now open and accepting admissions. The center, at 780 Old New Brunswick Rd., offers “the most sophisticated therapy for sub-acute patients provided by world renowned Kessler Rehabilitation,” according to a press release on the opening.

Saying that the assignment of two police officers to the Hamilton Street Business District has been a success, the advisory board charged with shepherding the district’s rejuvenation will ask the township to beef up the police presence. Livingston-based Regal Bank now has a Somerset office, with the completion of its merger with Community First Bank. The merger, first announced late last year, became effective at the end of business on March 31.

Flemington Nissan and Ditschman/Flemington Ford, part of the Flemington Car Country family of dealerships, and Operation Kidsafe, are sponsoring “New Jersey Regional Child Safety Days” events at their location in April.
