UPDATE: The budget and the SID assessment roll were approved as introduced at the Council’s February 24 meeting. The proposed 2026 $40,228 budget for the Hamilton Street Business District was introduced at the Township Council’s January 27 meeting.

The township is on track to once again have a discount furniture store. Levin Management, the leasing and management agent for Hamilton Street Center, 712 Hamilton Street, announced on April 4 that Red Tag Furniture Outlet has committed to a 5,750-square-foot space in that plaza.

Goblins and ghouls and Taylor Swifts were spotted throughout the township in the days leading up to, and including, Halloween. As has been the practice for the past number of years, “Trunk or Treats” events were held in multiple locations.

A proposed 362-bedroom student housing project on Hamilton Street could pump as much as $1.7 million a year into the local economy, a consultant said March 11. If one believed in omens, one might think that the Hamilton Street Advisory Board’s attempt to brighten the business district for the holiday season was doomed from the start. At least for the part of the effort having to do with stringing holiday lights across the street.

The Hamilton Street Advisory Board on Aug. 7 got a look at plans for three proposed developments in the business district. Two of the projects have been in the hopper for a while; one of those has already been approved, but had been changed. The third project is new.

The Hamilton Street Advisory Board will ask the Township Council for a modification to the township’s anti-graffiti ordinance. Board members decided at their April 3 meeting to make a suggestion that the ordinance’s compliance time be shortened from 90 days to 30 days.

After the most recent attempt to decorate the street didn’t go exactly as planned, the Hamilton Street Advisory Board on Jan. 9 decided to start planning for this year early. Ricardo Benson apparently doesn’t believe in wasting time. Even before the Lakewood resident opened his store – Custom Tees And More – on Hamilton Street, he was already working to give back to his adopted community.

Sydney Place on Nov. 5 was honorably renamed after the late Patrick Gianotto for his efforts in the redevelopment of the Hamiton Street business district. Gianotto, a lifelong township resident and owner of Franklin Electric, died suddenly while on vacation in May.
