Police Log: Dec. 8 – Dec. 13, 2016

Dec. 8

  • Someone stole a Goodyear tire valued at $300 from a People’s Line Road home.
  • A 2006 Honda Accord parked off Easton Avenue was burglarized.
  • Four men “dined and dashed” at the Somerset Diner, Easton Avenue. The men skipped on a $42 tab.
  • A Reler Lane resident told police that early in the morning, she heard someone jiggling the doorknob on her front door. She said that she and her boyfriend investigated, and found the door ajar. Police said the keys to a Jeep had been stolen.
  • Edward Sarchisian of Hillsborough was driving down Canal Road when a deer jumped in front of his car, he told police. He said he couldn’t avoid hitting it.
  • Mayren Roman-Suarez of Rockford, Ill. was cited for failure to exhibit driving credentials after her car was involved in an accident on Easton Avenue with one driven by Alan Jones of Somerset. Roman-Suarez said she did not see Jones’ car on Easton as she was making a left turn from Irvington Avenue, and her car hit his.
  • Amit Golchha of Somerset was cited for careless driving after his car rear-ended one driven on Olcott Street by Steven Callaghan of Franklin Park. Callaghan said he was turning left onto Amwell when he yielded to a school bus that was turning onto Amwell from Charles Street. His car was then rear-ended by Golchha’s. Golchha said the car ahead of his stopped suddenly, leaving him no time to avoid the accident.
  • Cars driven on Hamilton Street by Shontaya Wilson of New Brunswick and Tushar Gupta of Somerset collided when Gupta made a left turn out of a driveway. Gupta said he did not see Wilson’s car.
  • Shirley Knopf of Somerset was driving in her complexes’ parking lot when, she said, the car suddenly accelerated. She said she could not stop and lost control of the car. The car ran off the road, struck a light post and then struck a parked car owned by Debra Johnson of Somerset.
  • Rebecca Sanders of Belle Mead was pulling into traffic on Hamilton Street when her car sideswiped one driven by Arif Nawaz of North Brunswick. Sanders said she did not see Narwaz’s car.
  • Miledy Rodriguez of New Brunswick was driving on Franklin Boulevard when she decided to change lanes. That’s when her car struck one driven in the next lane by Disiree Jones of New Brunswick.
  • Griselda Clara-Ortiz of Lawrence Township was cited for careless driving and driving without a license after her car rear-ended one driven by Thomas McCann of Kendal Park. Clara-Ortiz said she was driving without a license because of a family emergency. She said she did not see McCann’s car before hitting it.

Dec. 9

  • An Ari Drive homeowner surprised two men who were attempting to break into his home. The men ran off, police said.
  • A Canterbury Circle resident reported that someone vandalized her 2013 Hyundai Sonata while it was parked at her house.
  • Sometime between Dec. 4 and Dec. 9, someone stole a package valued at $70 from the porch of a Chatsworth Drive home.
  • A car driven by Robert Tronolone of Flemington was crossing the intersection of New Brunswick Road and Elizabeth Avenue, with the green light, when a car driven by Adrienne Smith of North Plainfield turned in front of his and the two collided.

Dec.10

  • An Apple notebook computer, valued at $1,300, was stolen from a Route 27 residence.
  • A car driven by Elizabeth DeJesus of New Providence was stopped at Booker and Somerset streets, behind another car, when that car backed into hers. The driver of the other car then fled the scene.

Dec. 11

  • Four pair of gold-plated hoop earrings were stolen from the vehicle of a Pear Tree Lane resident. The earrings were valued at $200.
  • A Crabapple Lane resident told police that an Apple classic iPod, valued at $150, was stolen from his car.
  • Sometime between Dec. 10 and Dec. 11, someone entered a 2013 Cadillac Escallade parked on Franklin Boulevard and stole $50 in cash.
  • Althea Beckford of Somerset was cited for making an improper turn after the car she was driving collided with one driven by Victor Rivera-Moncada of New Brunswick. Rivera-Moncada was driving down Franklin Boulevard when Beckford’s car turned in front of his and they collided. Beckford said she did not see any other cars.
  • A car driven by Yichen Zhou of Somerset backed into a car owned by Yingia Zhou of Piscataway while the car was parked in an Easton Avenue lot.
  • A car driven by Chaitali Patel of Piscataway was stopped in traffic on Cedar Grove Lane when it was struck in the rear by a car driven by Shanon Velez of South Amboy. Velez said she tried to stop, but could not.
  • Zhewen Xu of Harrison told police that he was turning from Cedar Grove Lane onto Amwell Road and did not maintain his lane, striking a car driven by Henry Ngan of Monmouth Junction.
  • Olusola Omotoso of North Brunswick was backing out of a Lenox Place driveway when his car backed into a parked auto owned by Jazzmin Afflick of Philadelphia.

Dec. 12

  • A Lyon Lane resident told police that sometime between Dec. 11 and Dec. 12, someone entered her unlocked 2013 Mazda and stole a Louis Vuitton purse valued at $950, a Louis Vuitton wallet valued at $200 and personal papers.
  • About $1,500 worth of computer hardware was stolen from a Weston Canal Road home.
  • Sadiqa Bokhari of Green Brook told police that her car was stopped in traffic on Hamilton Street, at Franklin Boulevard when her foot slipped off the brake pedal and onto the accelerator. Her car then rear-ended a car driven by Dipali Shah of Somerset.
  • Jihad Davis of New Brunswick was cited for careless driving, driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident after the car he was driving on Robert Road crashed into two parked cars. Police said Davis’ car struck one owned by DeWayne Sawyer Jr., the impact of which pushed his car into one owned by Daniel Sawyer. Davis then left the scene, but police were able to locate the car and Davis later.
  • A car driven by Brian Hagre of Milltown was stopped on DeMott Lane, waiting to turn left onto Emerson Road, when it was rear-ended by a car driven by Saul Madera of New Brunswick. Madera said he could not stop in time.

Dec. 13

  • Yajaira Gonzales of Hillsborough told police that while she was changing lanes on Amwell Road, after signalling her intent to do so, a car driven in the same direction by Jonathan Gillen of Millstone sped up to pass her on the left. Gonzales said she could not avoid hittinh Gillen’s car.
