Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have re-signed first baseman Eddy Martinez-Esteve.
Martinez-Esteve was among the Atlantic League leaders in hitting throughout an All-Star 2013 season for Somerset. He finished with a .355 batting average, 93 hits, 13 doubles, five home runs, and 48 RBI in 77 games played.
Prior to joining the Patriots last season, Esteve had experience in the San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners organizations, including six seasons at the Double-A level and one at the Triple-A level.
In 2011, he finished with a .269 average in 15 games played at Double-A Jackson. At High Desert the year before, Esteve hit .325 with 66 hits, 12 doubles, seven home runs, and 36 RBI in 53 games played.
Esteve has a minor league career .301 average with 712 hits, 152 doubles, 11 triples, 47 home runs, and 699 RBI in 679 games played.
He played briefly for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League in 2012.
Martinez-Esteve joined the team for their series on the road in Lancaster and has been activated Saturday. To make room for Martinez-Esteve, the Patriots have placed infielder Steve Nikorak on the Inactive List.
