Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (18-8) rallied past the Bridgeport Bluefish (14-12) by winning 5-3 Thursday evening from TD Bank Ballpark.
Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Patriots catapulted in front when first baseman Chris Marrero smacked a three run home run (5) to give Somerset its first lead at 5-3.
In the top of the third inning the center fielder Nick Van Stratten stroked a RBI single and catcher James Skelton committed a throwing error allowing a run to score as Bridgeport took a 2-0 advantage.
Right fielder Scott Cousins ripped a RBI double in the bottom of the third inning to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.
Bridgeport added a run in the top of the fifth inning when third baseman Sean Burroughs pounded a RBI single to make the score 3-1.
Cousins legged out a RBI fielder’s choice to score center fielder Jonny Tucker making the contest 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning
Kyler Newby earned the win (4-0) in relief. Tim Gustafson sustained the loss (0-2) in relief. Jon Hunton notched the save (5) pitching a perfect ninth inning.
