Life Story: David William Jacobson, 80; Enjoyed Attending Airshows

David William Jacobson, 80, passed away on October 7 at his home in Somerset.

Born on January 6, 1946, in Manhattan, New York, David was the son of the late Raphael and Susan (Morey) Jacobson. Throughout his life, he resided in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Staten Island before eventually settling in Somerset.

David attended the City College of New York (CCNY), where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Asian History. He began his professional career working in the parts department of a motorcycle shop, which led to a lifelong career in the automotive industry. Over the years, he worked for Toyota and Honda before concluding his career as a parts manager with Ford Motor Company.

David had a lifelong fascination with aviation and military history. He especially enjoyed attending airshows and experiencing the thrill of flying aboard vintage aircraft. His passion for aviation even inspired him to take flying lessons, although his eyesight prevented him from obtaining his pilot’s license.

Known for his quick wit and dry sense of humor, David had a way of bringing laughter to those around him. He also had a special appreciation for good food, particularly freshly baked bread and pastries, and was always on the lookout for a great bakery or the perfect slice of pie. Throughout his 15-year battle with Parkinson’s disease, David faced life’s challenges with perseverance and the support of his loving family. Above all, David cherished his family and the time they shared together.

David is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Janice Jacobson; his sons, Edward Jacobson and Matthew Jacobson and his wife, Laura; his cherished grandsons, Clark and Nate Jacobson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. October 11 at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset.

Burial will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in David’s memory to the UCSF SCID Angels Legacy Fund, supporting the continued important work of the SCID Angels for Life Foundation, at www.donate.ucsfbenioffchildrens.org, or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at www.michaeljfox.org.
