New Britain, Conn. – The Somerset Patriots (29-21, 63-49) held the New Britain Bees (23-26, 56-56) to just one unearned run in a 4-1 Saturday night win at New Britain Stadium.
Joyce Boyd (4) opened up the scoring with a two-out solo home run to left field in the top of the first inning. Endy Chavez added a two-out RBI double later in the inning to give Somerset an early 2-0 lead.
The Patriots added a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to double their lead. Alfredo Rodriguez scored the first run of the inning from second base after he stole third and advanced home on a James Skelton throwing error. A bases loaded walk to Justin Pacchioli a couple of batters later provided a 4-0 advantage for Somerset.
That score held until the Bees manufactured an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth on a Vicente Conde RBI double, but they would get no closer.
Six different Patriots pitchers held the Bees to just that one unearned run. Vince Molesky (6-2) tossed 5.1 scoreless innings as the starter to earn the win. Greg Nappo (0-1) allowed two runs over five innings to suffer the loss. Ryan Kelly (21) struck out the final batter of the night to record the save.
The Patriots and Bees conclude their three-game series Sunday afternoon. First pitch at New Britain Stadium is set for 1:35 p.m.
The 2018 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford continues on the road until Friday, September 7th when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark for an 7:05 p.m. game against the York Revolution.
