​Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots today announced that four-year Major Leaguer and former Patriot right-handed pitcher Tyler Cloyd has been signed for the 2019 season. “I’m excited to be back in Somerset,” said Cloyd. “My experience there in 2017 was great! The whole organization and the fans are amazing. I cannot wait to get the season going.” 

Defending Group IV champion Montgomery exploded for 13 runs in the second inning to best the Franklin High School Lady Warriors softball team 16-0 April 8. Gabrielle Ciccone garnered the Lady Warriors’ only hit, a double in the second inning. That’s Ciccone’s third double of the season out of her nine total hits.

The township’s two youth baseball leagues kicked off their 2019 seasons on April 5 with parades, while the soccer program fancied a more low-key opening. In total, nearly 900 township kids were playing either soccer or baseball, after the Franklin Township Baseball League, the Franklin Township-South Bound Brook Little League and the Franklin Township Soccer Club held their season openings.

The Franklin High School Lady Warriors softball team was overwhelmed April 4 by Hunterdon Central, which exploded for 26 runs on 23 hits in a 26-2 victory in four innings. Gabrielle Ciccone went two-for-two with a double, and Nala McMullen and Brooke Sachau went one-for-two in the Warriors’ effort.

​Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots today announced that first baseman Edwin Espinal has been signed for the 2019 season.  Espinal enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots and first in the Atlantic League. The 25-year-old played 100 games with Triple-A Toledo (Detroit Tigers) last year, slashing .242 with six home runs and 24 RBI. He previously split his 2017 season …

The Franklin High School Warriors baseball team fell to Ridge High School in its home opener April 2, dropping a 7-0 decision. The Warriors left 10 runners on base in an outing that saw them out-slug Ridge 8-7.

The third annual Garden State 10-Miler races went off with no hitches March 31 in Colonial Park. The races are sponsored by the Garden State Track Club, the president of which is a township resident, and they are sanctioned by USA Track And Field – New Jersey.

Fans of the Franklin High School Lady Warriors’ basketball team got another chance to celebrate their historic 2018-19 championship season on March 29. ​Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots today announced that right-handed relief pitcher Zech Zinicola has been re-signed for the 2019 season. “I’m happy to be back with the Patriots and am looking forward to meeting all my new teammates and staff members,” said Zinicola. “The ‘stache is back! It’s going to be another fun year.” 

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced that their annual Fan Fest will take place on Saturday, April 13th at TD Bank Ballpark from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Fan Fest is a FREE admission event to kick off spring and the upcoming baseball season. The first 500 kids in attendance will receive a complimentary t-shirt as they enter.
