Hundreds of children and adults in the township enjoyed pre-Halloween festivities Oct. 29 at two different events. The newest of the two was the Trunk or Treat presented by the Hamilton Street Business District, Week of the People organization and the township in the John’s Plaza parking lot on Hamilton Street.

Rebecca Russell thought she was going to Snyder’s Farm Oct. 23 to pick pumpkins. Turned out that she left with a rock. As in diamond ring.

An estimated 400 hot dogs were sold Oct. 23 during the annual “Hot Dog Sunday” benefit for the Franklin Food Bank and township PBA Local 154. The event, held at the Corner Cafe, corner of DeMott Lane and Amwell Road, was the beneficiary of pleasant weather and a steady stream of customers, said Frank Hasner, the food bank’s executive director.

“Hot Dog Sunday” benefitting the Franklin Township Food Bank and PBA Local 154 is set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Corner Cafe and Grill, DeMott Lane and Amwell Road. The community is invited to Spring Hills Somerset Assisted Living, 473 DeMott Lane, for “PawFest” from 1-3 p.m. on Oct. 22. The family friendly event is highlighted by a costumed pet parade through the building, trick or treating for the pets and kids, and pictures and refreshments for all. Owners are welcome to dress up in costumes matching their pets. …

An estimated 3,000 people strolled down Market Street in East Millstone Oct. 15 for the 6th annual Delaware & Raritan Canal Festival. The event, featuring arts and crafts and food vendors non-profit organizations and a variety of musical acts, is a fundraiser for the Franklin Township Food Bank.

Residents at the Regency Jewish Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation center on DeMott Lane held an ice cream social to celebrate Columbus Day. The event was held in the facility’s Columbus Room, which features a rare Columbus sculpture panel. The panel, created by sculptor Frank Meiler, is one of 10 that were created.

The recent spate of “creepy clown” sightings has spurred township officials to ask parents to not buy their children clown costumes for Halloween. People dressed up as creepy clowns have been appearing in spots across the country. The sightings have been videoed and posted on social media sites.
