More than 120 cyclists were on hand Sept. 20 for the Renaissance Community Development Corporation Credit Union’s annual bike-a-thon for prostate cancer awareness. The group raised $4,000, which was presented before the ride’s start to Steve Jones, president and CEO of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Health System.

The Franklin Township Senior Citizens Center on New Brunswick Road held its second annual “Grill’n and Chill’n Hee-Haw Hoe Down” on Aug. 20. The center was decorated with a country theme. complete with bales of hay, saddles and a chicken for the event.

The “Week of the People” celebration, sponsored by the Somerset Community Action Program, wrapped up Aug. 9 at John’s Plaza with a mini music festival. The day featured local rappers and singers, said organizer Percy Sanders.

You don’t have to exercise every day, but you do have to move every day. That’s the mantra of Franklin Park resident Joanne Overbaugh who, for the past two years or so, has been leading seniors at the Quail Brook Senior Citizens Center in weekly “movement for life” classes.

The Summer Food Service Program, a federal program that serves food and snacks to underprivileged children, has two sites operating in the township. The sites are located at the Franklin Middle School, 415 Francis St., and Naaman Williams Park on Matilda Avenue.

Sponsorships and participants are being sought for the “Golf Fore Groceries” fundraiser to benefit the Franklin Township Food bank. Check-in for the event is set for 10:30 a.m. July 21 at Royce Brook Golf Club, 201 Hamilton Rd., Hillsborough. Golfers will tee off at 1 p.m. for a modified scramble from the course’s West Course.
