Residents at the Regency Jewish Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation center on DeMott Lane held an ice cream social to celebrate Columbus Day.
The event was held in the facility’s Columbus Room, which features a rare Columbus sculpture panel. The panel, created by sculptor Frank Meiler, is one of 10 that were created.
The panel, created out of pewter, 24k gold and silver, “commemorates the voyages of Columbus and the Jewish contribution that made the Voyages of Discovery possible,” according to the sculptor’s web site. “It is also adorned with a small version of the Jerusalem Sphere in its center.”
