Unbelievable Patriots Comeback Ties Up Division Series 1-1

SEPT25GRAPHICLancaster, PA – The Somerset Patriots (1-1) defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers (1-1) 5-4 in 11 innings Thursday evening in Game Two of the Liberty Division Series from Clipper Magazine Stadium. The series is tied at 1-1 in the best-of-five set. The Patriots erased a three run deficit heading into the seventh inning to rally and salvage a split on the road.

 

In the top of the 11th inning designated hitter Jake Fox slugged a go ahead RBI double to give Somerset its first lead of the evening at 5-4.

 

Lancaster plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 advantage. Left fielder Cole Garner slapped a two RBI single while third baseman Wilson Batista hammered a RBI double.

 

Right fielder Ty Wright sprayed a RBI single in the top of the sixth inning after center fielder Jonny Tucker socked a leadoff double to cut the deficit to 3-1.

 

The Barnstormers responded with a solo home run by center fielder Greg Golson (1) in the ensuing half inning to expand their lead to 4-1.

 

The Patriots rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning as Tucker brought home first baseman Daryle Ward via a RBI fielder’s choice and Wright poked a RBI single to make the contest 4-3.

 

Second baseman Jeff Dominguez ripped a game tying RBI single in the top of the eighth inning to even the score 4-4.

 

Matt Zielinski (1-0) earned the win in relief. Jason Urquidez (0-1) suffered the loss in relief. Jon Hunton notched the save (1) pitching a scoreless final frame.

 

The 2014 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue tomorrow night when the Patriots are home at TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Lancaster Barnstormers.
