Bluefish Edge Patriots 7-6

JULY20thGRAPHICBridgeport, CT – The Bridgeport Bluefish (6-5, 28-53) salvaged the series finale against the Somerset Patriots (6-5, 52-28) by winning 7-6 Sunday afternoon from Harbor Yard.

 

In the top of the second inning shortstop Scott Kelly ripped a RBI single to give Somerset an early 1-0 advantage.

 

Bridgeport grabbed a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning as shortstop Mike Richard sliced a RBI single and right fielder Prentice Redman slugged a RBI double.

 

The Bluefish plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-1 lead. Catcher Luis Rodriguez stroked a RBI single while Richard drove home a run via a fielder’s choice.

 

Left fielder Casper Wells belted a RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning to expand the Bluefish lead to 5-1.

 

The Patriots scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 5-4. Center fielder Jonny Tucker drilled a two RBI double while designated hitter Daryle Ward socked a RBI double.

 

Redman drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the fifth inning to increase the Bluefish lead to 6-4.

 

Third baseman Corey Smith ripped a RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 6-5.

 

Redman blooped a RBI single in the ensuing half inning to up the Bluefish lead to 7-5.

 

Pinch hitter Damaso Espino stroked a RBI single in the top of the ninth inning to make the score 7-6 which would be the final.

 

Hunter Jones (5-7) earned the win tossing 6.2 innings allowing five runs on nine hits. Matt Zielinski (7-4) suffered the loss hurling four innings while surrendering five runs on four walks. Winston Abreu earned the save (15) as he pitched the ninth inning.
