The Somerset Presbyterian Church on John . F Kennedy Boulevard has sponsored Boy Scout Troop and Pack 113 for more than 50 years by providing a safe space for hosting weekly troop meetings and other troop events in their Fellowship Hall at the Church. Since 1965 the SPC community has supported the Boy Scouts of America organization because its values, attributes, and “scout spirit” are in line with those of the Church.
Boy Scout Troop and Pack 113 gives back to the church in many ways to show their appreciation for SPC. They help with groundskeeper responsibilities, annual flea market set-up and clean-up, various fundraiser events and, most importantly, once a year they are charged to lead one full worship service for the Church.
Each year the Scouts spend one Sunday in prayer with the community at SPC on “Scout Sunday.” Scouts will read passages, lead in song and peace offerings and discuss general activities within the troop to keep our community informed of their various contributions to our township.
In addition to these services, our troop leaders presented a certificate of their appreciation to the church. This year Scout Sunday was held on Feb. 25 with Rev. Jim Morris.
It was a fun-filled, feel-good day. We can be so proud of our local Boy Scout Troop 113 for exemplifying to the community that Good Things Are Still Going On! We strive to be a positive bright shining light for Franklin Township.
