The 71-year-old township resident who suffered serious head injuries June 17 after she was struck by a car while riding her bike has died, police said.
Police said Judith Schrope died later in the day. She was riding her bicycle on Weston Road when she was hit, police said.
Police said Schrope was riding her bicycle shortly after 9:30 a.m. near Weston Canal Road when it was struck by a 2001 Chevy Tahoe driven by Barbara Mulford-Dera, 63, of Belle Mead.
Tonshop police spokesman Sgt. Philip Rizzo said Schrope was not wearing a cycling helmet.
Police said both Schrope and Mulford-Dera were traveling westbound on the road at the time of the accident.
Schrope was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where she later died.
Mulford-Dera was not injured in the accident, police said.
Polie said Weston Road between Weston Canal and Mettlers roads were closed for about two hours after the accident.
The accident is still being investigated by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team and the Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau, police said.
