Programs in Water Pilates, hydro, deep water exercises and aqua boot camp are being offered to people aged 60 and older by the Somerset Valley YMCA in the Bridgewater Aquatic Center, 601 Garretson Rd.
Registration for the courses ends Sept. 6.
The cost is $35 for each 10-week session. No registrations will be accepted after the deadline, and no refunds will be given for missed classes, according to a release about he program.
Water Pilates is Pilates adapted to the pool, with exercises performed at a slow pace, and which employ stretching, breathing, concentration and control, according to the release.
Hydro classes – low-impact exercises performed in the shallow end of the pool – incorporate a combination of calisthenics, wall exercises and water-jogging, according to the release.
The deep water course is a comprehensive water exercise program that helps tone the body, work the cardiovascular system and build endurance. Participants of this course wear an aquatic belt while they exercise in the deep end, the release said.
Aqua boot camp is a high intensity water fitness program that offers benefits similar to weight and resistance training at a traditional gym, the release said. Pool exercises are easier on the joints compared to other types of exercise, according to the release.
According to the registration form, the sessions run Monday through Friday at various times between 9 a.m. and noon.
