The Piscataway High School Superchiefs built a commanding lead during the first quarter on their way to a lopsided 38-7 win over the FHS Warriors in the annual Thanksgiving day football game.
The Superchiefs scored three times in the 12-minute period. In fact, Piscataway scored on every possession save the last, when they opted to run out the clock in the 4th quarter.
In total, the Superchiefs scored in three of the four quarters, while Franklin managed to cross the goal line once in the second quarter.
A highlight of the day came during halftime, when members of the 2014-15 varsity girls’ basketball team received their rings for winning the 2015 NJSIAA Group 4 Championship, the first in the program’s history.
Several business and organizations in the township, and the high school’s Booster Club, donated to a fund to help offset the cost of the rings. A “Dine to Donate” event held at Moe’s Southwestern Grill on Cedar Grove Lane, and planned by the restaurant’s co-owner Raj Patel, and Alex Shedlock, branch manager of Unity Bank in Somerset, resulted in a $1,600 donation to the fund.
