Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots swept a double header over the Lancaster Barnstormers at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday evening.
Game 1:
The Somerset Patriots (47-23, 58-32) shutout the Lancaster Barnstormers (39-31, 50-39) 7-0 Wednesday evening in game one of a doubleheader from TD Bank Ballpark. With the victory the Somerset Patriots set a franchise record for most wins in a single half by tallying 47 wins. The previous record was 46 set in the first half of 2013. This game counted towards the first half because it was a makeup from July 3rd.
In the bottom of the first inning the Patriots scored four runs to take an early 4-0 advantage. Left fielder Ty Wright stroked a RBI single, catcher Kevin Kotch was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and right fielder Cory Harrilchak hammered a two RBI double.
Third baseman Corey Smith slashed a RBI single in the home half of the second inning to expand the lead to 5-0.
First baseman Daryle Ward sprayed a two RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to increase Somerset’s lead to 7-0.
Daniel Herrera (4-0) earned the win tossing one inning of relief. Shunsuke Watanabe (3-2) suffered the loss hurling two innings while allowing five runs.
Game 2:
The Somerset Patriots (12-9, 59-32) shutout the Lancaster Barnstormers (11-9, 50-40) 2-0 Wednesday evening in game two of a doubleheader from TD Bank Ballpark.
In the bottom of the third inning center fielder Jonny Tucker pounded a home run (1) to give Somerset a 1-0 advantage.
First baseman Daryle Ward smacked a home run (3) in the bottom of the fourth frame as the Patriots added to their lead at 2-0.
Matt Zielinski (8-4) earned the win tossing six scoreless innings. Cory Wade (2-3) endured the loss throwing a complete game while allowing two runs on five hits. Jon Hunton notched his Atlantic League leading 32nd save throwing the final frame.
