Lancaster, PA – The Somerset Patriots (6-1) defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers (4-3) 8-6 in 11 innings Friday night from Clipper Magazine Stadium. The game featured five different lead changes and three different ties.
In the top of the first inning third baseman Corey Smith smacked a RBI double to give the Patriots an early 1-0 advantage.
Lancaster evened the contest at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning when shortstop Casey Frawley recorded a RBI sacrifice fly.
Somerset broke the 1-1 tie in the ensuing half inning as second baseman Nate Spears clubbed a two run home run (1) to right field making the score 3-1.
Smith tallied another RBI double in the top of the sixth inning as Somerset added to its lead making the score 4-1.
The Barnstormers plated a pair of runs in the home half of the sixth inning as right fielder Cole Garner and designated hitter Fred Lewis each hit RBI singles cutting the deficit to 4-3.
Center fielder Blake Gailen drilled a game tying home run (3) to right field that tied the game at 4-4 in the seventh inning.
Garner smacked a go ahead homer (1) in the bottom of the eighth frame to give Lancaster its first lead of the game at 5-4.
The Patriots rallied for two in the top of the ninth as shortstop Edwin Maysonet spanked a go ahead opposite field two run home run (1) to right-center as Somerset retook the lead at 6-5.
Gailen ripped a game tying RBI double to even the score a 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Patriots grabbed their fourth different lead of the night when catcher Adam Donachie and Spears registered RBI singles to give Somerset a 8-6 lead which would be the final score.
Jason Lowey (1-0) earned the win in relief. Pete Andrelczyk (0-1) suffered the loss in relief. Kyler Newby notched the save (1).
