On October 24th, historian and author Timothy Messer-Kruse delivered an engaging presentation, “Black Refugees and the Crisis of American Freedom,” at the Franklin Township Public Library during an event hosted by the Franklin 250 Committee.

Messer-Kruse explored the complex historical suppression of African-American uprising throughout history, particularly examining the War of 1812, the Treaty of Paris’s 7th Article, and a number of other events that connect these uprisings to discussions surrounding the Constitutional Convention.

Following the presentation, Messer-Kruse took part in a book-signing and remarked on the positive overall atmosphere.
