The Franklin Township Interfaith Coalition will observe the National Day of Prayer with two events on May 4.
First, at 12:30 p.m., representatives from various houses of worship in the township will gather at the township’s Veterans Memorial on DeMott Lane for their annual prayer service.
Then at 7 p.m., the group will gather at New Brunswick Road and Cedar Grove Lane for the honorary renaming of Cedar Grove Lane to Interfaith Lane.
The coalition thought the honorary name fitting because of the number of houses of worship located on Cedar Grove Lane.
The Township Council agreed, and in December 2016 unanimously agreed to ask the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders to approve the renaming.
The effort was led by Alex Kharazi, the Interfaith Coalition’s president and a founder of the Masjid-e-Ali Mosque.
