Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Long Island Ducks 5-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday night.
The Ducks took an early 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Sean Burroughs.
Somerset tied up the game in fifth inning on an RBI groundout by Bryan LaHair.
The Patriots jumped in front with a four-run sixth inning. Scott Kelly put Somerset up with an RBI single. After a Yovan Gonzalez base hit, Trayvon Robinson launched a three-run home run (1) to left-center field for a 5-1 lead.
“I was just looking for a good pitch to hit and be simple with it. Offensively, it comes and goes, but today, I was able to just put the bat on the ball and keep it simple. That’s the most important thing with this job: play your role and help the team win,” Robinson said.
Robinson finished the game 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and three RBI.
Long Island plated another run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Lew Ford for the 5-2 final.
Reliever Gus Schlosser (1-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings pitched. Nick Struck (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on three hits in an inning pitched. Jon Hunton came on in the ninth to earn his first save of the 2016 season.
