It was National Signing Day Nov. 9 at Franklin High School, and front and center was Bill Hill, the cross-country and track standout who started his athletic career playing soccer.
Surrounded by friends and family, Hill ceremoniously signs this letter of intent to attend Rutgers University next fall.
A goalie for the FHS soccer team last year, Hill has raised eyebrows this season on the cross-country courses and in the 800 and 1,600 meter runs.
In his first season running cross-country, Hill won five of his first six major races.
Hill said he chose Rutgers – his parents’ alma mater – after visiting with the team and coaches.
“The team is really nice, and I can’t wait to work with the coaches,” he said. “It will be a fun experience for me.”
His mother, Ann Marie Hill, said she was “very proud” of her son, “both academically and athletically.”
“The past few years, he was playing soccer,” she said. “I can’t say that I thought he would go on to do track and field.”
