After days of rain, the skies finally cleared April 8, allowing for the sightings of some sure signs of Spring. The annual Bunny Jamboree, sponsored by the township department of Parks and Recreation, and the kickoff of the spring season for the Franklin Township Soccer Club were highlights of the windy, chilly day.

A township resident recently participated in a panel discussion on cultural differences and commonalities. The March 30 discussion was part of a Women’s History Month program cosponsored by the Somerset County Commission on the Status of Women and the Raritan Valley Community College Office of Multicultural Affairs.

There will be a new venue this year for the annual Wine & Spirits Tasting fundraiser held by Franklin Township PBA Local 154. The event, which last year sold out, will be held from 7-11 p.m. April 21 at The Marigold, 315 Hamilton Street.

It was beer, beer, music, more beer and food April 1 during the third annual beer tasting fundraiser at Suydam Farms. The event – which has had a couple of names but is now known as Beer Fest – benefits the Franklin Food Bank and featured craft brewers, music and a variety of food.

This week marks the beginning of the 13-day celebration of Norooz, the Persian New Year, a time of visitation and celebration shared by a variety of cultures. The start date of the Persian year 1395 coincides with the vernal, or Spring, equinox, which this year occurs at precisely 6:28:40 a.m. on March 20.
