The township this month is losing one of two Rite Aid drug stores with the closing of the Elizabeth Avenue location. The store, which was one of nearly 2,000 sold to rival Walgreens, will be closed on July 12, then reopen for about two weeks on July 13, a Walgreens’ spokesman said.

A Somerset woman was elected chairperson of the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners’ Central Region Leadership Team. Bertha Robinson, owner of Star One Professional Services, was elected along with other officers on June 18, according to a release from the organization.

The Protec Ducks, a group of youth travel hockey teams, has announced its third league affiliation. More than a dozen students at Paint Fun Studio in Franklin Park were acknowledged June 1 in a special ceremony. The 15 students received the accolades because they had won national and international awards for their art, said studio owner Nilufar Rahman.

The township’s health club war is about to intensify this summer, with the projected late-summer opening of a Fitness Factory in the Cedar Grove Plaza on Cedar Grove Lane. Actually, the name of the center will be Fitness Factory powered by Meridian, a result of a partnership between the North Jersey based fitness company and Meridian Health.

FLEMINGTON – The Flemington Car & Truck Country Family of Brands donated $200 each to the Parent-Teacher Organizations of MacAfee Road and the soon-to-be-opened Claremont elementary schools on May 18. The donations were made by Steve Kalafer, the dealership’s founding chairman.

The Franklin Food Bank was the beneficiary May 15 of a local firm’s celebration of three decades in business. Melillo Consulting, headquartered on Davidson Avenue, held a celebration and check presentation at the Canal Road farm owned by founder Mark Melillo. The farm has supplied thousands of pounds of fresh produce to food bank clients over the past six years.
