The fifth Ocean State Job Lot store in New Jersey held a “soft opening” Nov. 21 at the Franklin Towne Center in Franklin Park.
The Rhode Island-based discount retailer is occupying about 31,000 square feet in the strip center located at Route 27 and South MIddlebush Road.
A self-styled “opportunistic buying” company, Ocean State Job Lot obtains most of its stock through closeouts from major retail chains.
“Anything that comes along, whether it’s a close-out from a vendor, or an over-buy and they need to sell it off, we’ll be one of those parties,” said Ed Stephens, OSJL’s district manager for New Jersey and part of New York.
He said the chain also buys merchandise direct from vendors, and has items specially made by manufacturers.
The store features a wide variety of products, from clothing to hardware, groceries to rugs and seasonal items.
The Franklin Park store opened with 50 employees, more than half of whom are township residents, Stephens said.
“We’ve been looked upon to help reinvigorate this plaza, hopefully that will happen and we’ll generate some excitement,” he said.
