Bridgewater, NJ – The New Britain Bees (21-28, 57-62) defeated the Somerset Patriots (26-23, 64-55) 4-3 in ten innings on Saturday evening at TD Bank Ballpark.
New Britain broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the tenth inning on an RBI triple by Michael Crouse that would lead to the final score.
“They made some plays when we had some runners in scoring position. They did a good job to minimize innings and we never got that big hit we needed,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie.
The Bees took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI double by Jon Griffin.
Griffin and Jonathan Roof hit RBI singles in the top of the fourth inning to give New Britain a 3-0 advantage.
Somerset cut the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning on a solo home run by Kyle Roller (5) and an RBI double by Rob Kral that made the score 3-2.
The Patriots tied up the game in the sixth inning on a two-out RBI single by Aharon Eggleston.
Rob Bryson (2-2) picked up the win with two scoreless innings pitched. Mickey Storey (1-8) took the loss, allowing a run on two hits in an inning pitched. Shawn Gilblair earned the save (12) with a scoreless inning.
“It was a hard fought contest on both sides, but ultimately they got the big hit in the end,” Jodie added.
