Anytime Fitness in the Franklin Court Shopping Plaza on Hamilton Street is celebrating its first anniversary throughout May by offering free outdoor exercise classes.

Called “Free Workout Saturdays,” the classes, designed for people at every fitness level, will start at 10 a.m. in the plaza’s overflow parking lot.

“Everyone realizes that exercise is good for you,” Daniella Harris, owner of Anytime Fitness, said in a press release about the event. “But for many people knowing how and where to get started can be a challenge. We want our community to be as healthy and active as possible, and we hope that the ‘Free Workouts Saturdays’ will show folks that exercise can be fun and hopefully they’ll find the motivation to continue their own personal healthier lifestyle journeys.”

The five consecutive “Free Workout Saturdays” will be led by certified personal trainers and are are open to all adults in Somerset and the surrounding communities, not just Anytime Fitness members, according to the release. The concept, inspired by grassroots efforts of a few Anytime Fitness clubs that regularly offer free outdoor “boot camps,” has grown into a nationwide campaign to promote physical fitness.

“At Anytime Fitness, we’re passionate about helping people ‘get to a healthier place,’” Harris said in the release. “That can mean different things to different people. For some, it’s losing weight or gaining strength. For others, it’s improving balance or flexibility. The important thing is to find physical activities that you enjoy, so being active is something you look forward to, rather than dread.”

In addition to “Free Workout Saturdays,” Harris said in the release that Anytime Fitness has “a full schedule of fun and exciting activities and giveaways planned for Somerset members all month long, including free Zumba classes, chair massages and personal training sessions.”

“We want our members to know that we appreciate them and the opportunity they’ve entrusted to us, to help and encourage them to their goals,” Harris said in the release.

To participate in “Free Workout Saturdays” visit www.anytimefitness.com beginning April 20 to register. Participants are asked to wear comfortable workout clothing and sneakers, and to bring a water bottle.

Anytime Fitness Somerset is one of more than 1,000 Anytime Fitness clubs across the United States that will host the free outdoor exercise classes. In many communities city officials and public health representatives will join in the effort to get their residents involved.
