To the Franklin High School Community,
As we all enter into what I know will be an exciting and productive school year, I could not let this week pass without offering my “Congratulations” to the students and staff of Franklin High School on their recently released High School rank! If you are not yet aware, earlier this week New Jersey Monthly Magazine released their list of New Jersey’s Top Public High Schools. Franklin High School made a huge leap forward; moving up the list sixty spots. That’s right… 60 spots! Franklin’s rank is now 203 out of 339 public high schools in New Jersey. This is a remarkable improvement from their 2012 ranking where FHS was ranked 263 out of 328. This incredible achievement is a direct result of the hard work and commitment to achievement on the part of the FHS students, staff and administration.
Since 2012, two years since New Jersey Monthly Magazine last released high school ranks, Franklin High School has effected positive change.
- Franklin High School has increased the number of students graduating on time.
- Franklin High School has increased their State and National test scores for all clusters of students.
- Franklin High School has increased the number of students in Advanced Placement courses.
- Franklin High School has increased its college acceptance rates.
- Franklin High School Administration introduced a new schedule that has provided more opportunities for students to expand their course work, catch up to their graduation class, and to take electives to obtain new-found learning experiences.
- Franklin High School administration developed and received staff support for an effective intervention and referral service program and online-based curriculum to help students and families turn struggles into success.
In addition, Franklin High School has a renewed sense of school spirit. They have recovered from past scars and have held successful and well attended dances and club activities on the campus while also continuing to put on first rate plays and musicals. The FHS Shadows Program has traveled the world; recognized for FHS students and teachers teaching of tolerance and acceptance in this ever changing world.
Franklin High School also cut the ribbon for their first class stadium that will allow the school to host great sporting events, at home, in the upcoming years. The Franklin High School community also witnessed the enthusiasm and excitement as the FHS Girls Basketball team took a magical winter run to the Championship. Each and every game, home or away, was filled with supportive fans bursting with Franklin Pride!
To the staff of FHS – In addition to accepting my “Congratulations,” please accept my thanks for it is truly deserved. You, the staff, are the foundation of any school’s success and Franklin High School’s sixty spot gain is to your credit. For with given a new state evaluation tool, the new Common Core standards, Student Growth Objectives, increased state testing, increased enrollment and a new schedule, you worked through it and delivered quality instruction that moved Franklin High School to new heights. It was a job well done.
John C. Maxwell, leadership speaker and founder of the L2: Learn – Lead initiative, is quoted as saying, “We cannot become what we need, by remaining what we are.”
Congratulations and thank you again Franklin High School students, staff and administration for making changes, for taking steps in the right direction and for committing to become what the students of Franklin Township need.
It is this mindset and willingness that will continue to position the students of Franklin High School for success.
