The Franklin High School chapter of the National Honor Society is 81 members stronger following the May 21 induction ceremony.
This year, for the first time, the Society’s membership was opened up to sophomores, said Ron Richter, one of the Society’s faculty advisors.
FHS senior Alexandra Schmidt, the Society’s president, emcee’d the event and led the inductees through the ceremony.
FHS vice principal Frank Chmiel challenged the new members to “strive to develop yourselves to your greatest potential physically and intellectually.”
The students should “always strive for excellence,” learn from their mistakes and “use your talents in the service of others,” he said.
Chmiel noted that this year’s inductee class is more than twice the size of the entire chapter’s membership.
“I think that’s extraordinary,” he said.
Music for the event was provided by the high school’s string octet. The National Anthem was sung by NHS member Brooke Tooles.
