Pickup Of Downed Tree Limbs Could Take A Month, Saturday Pickups Eyed

Township residents who are waiting for limbs downed in the recent nor’easters to be picked up by township employees were asked to be patient at the March 27 Township Council meeting.

Township Manager Robert Vornlocker said that it looks as though it will take a month before all limbs are picked up, but there are now discussions to expand the collection efforts to Saturdays to help speed things up.

“They’re making progress,” Vornlocker said of the Department of Public Works’ employees making the rounds to collect the downed limbs.

He said workers are already expanding their days to quicken the process.

“Right now we’re doing it a minimum of two hours extra a day, employees are staying till 5, but we’re looking at the possibility of becoming maybe a little more efficient by doing it on Saturdays when there’s a little less traffic,” he said.

“What we simply ask residents to do is leave it out to the curb and be patient, it’s a big town,” he said. “A couple hundred miles of roadway, and crews obviously don’t move very quickly when they’re moving heavy equipment and loading dump trucks and bringing it down to the convenience center to be chewed up.”

“People are still putting things out and we understand, but we ask that you put it out as quickly as possible, and it might have to sit there for a little while, but the town is making an effort to get to every neighborhood, hopefully by the end of April,” Vornlocker said.

Limbs must be cut to no more than four feet in length and placed at curbside.
