Approximately $1,000 was raised Aug. 5 during the launch party for the Warrior for Life Foundation, held at Ovations in South Bound Brook.
That’s in addition to the more than $5,000 already raised by the organization, all of which is targeted to raise funds to provide scholarships to Franklin High School students for higher education programs. Members and supporters of the foundation gathered in Ovations to celebrate raising the money for their first scholarship.
Darryn Plummer, one of the organization’s co-founders, described how the group came to fruition.
“It’s a foundation that is built from alumni, residents, families, and we want to contribute to bringing the community together as well,” he said.
Nick Solomon, another foundation co-founder, said members want to make a contribution to the community.
“Whether it’s through scholarships, whether it’s just through community service, we just want to play a role in our community and give back to our youth and community at large,” he said.
As for the future, both Plummer and Solomon said the group has many future events planned to broaden its support in the community, including Week of the People, Franklin Day, and working in collaboration with the Barnard family’s college fair.
Solomon added that the foundation would be participating in another important occasion in the coming year.
“Our big event coming up is the gala [on] November 24, and that’s what we’re really pushing toward right now,” he said.
